How did you first get involved with because I said I would?
My husband who happens to now be the Denver Chapter leader has seen Alex speak at several work conferences and was always inspired. Since I was already familiar with the message and who Alex was it was exciting to see an event pop up on my Facebook for a meeting. And well… after that first meeting the rest is history!
What do you love most about being Denver’s Unified Promise Leader?
I was a volunteer chair on another non-profit before in Oklahoma and that position brought me so much joy and fulfillment. So when I saw that the Unified Promise position was open in Denver I knew it was right for me. Volunteering and doing good is essentially selfish because you get to leave with that feeling of accomplishment after hopefully making a difference in someone else life. It truly is a win-win.
What has been your favorite Unified Promise so far?
I would have to say serving the meal at Judi’s house in Denver. This is a non-profit that helps children deal with their grief. Being able to make a meal from scratch with other members and then serve the kids and their family was really special. There is something about the power of serving a meal.
What is one Unified Promise you hope to do that you have not done so far?
I want to partner with the Ronald McDonald house here in Denver and serve a meal for the families who are staying there while their child is at the hospital. In Oklahoma my family volunteered to do this a few times and then the group I was with also served a meal one night. I would like to show the members here what the Ronald McDonald house is all about and hopefully they will love touching those families as much as I have in the past.
If you had to say, what is your most memorable moment as a because I said I would volunteer/member?
Another great part of being involved in the Denver chapter is the other members I have formed friendships with. That is truly such a HUGE bonus…meeting new people who also want to do good and the friendships that can be forged.
If you could wave a magic wand and have one thing for your Chapter to make your job easier, what would it be?
I think right now a big focus for us is growing our membership. The more people we can get involved the better it will be for our Chapter and our Community. I wish the magic wand would show people what we are all about and how impactful they can be as well.
What is an interesting/fun fact that most people would not know about you?
I am a “retired” dancer. I started dancing when I was 2 years old and danced until I was 27. It was my life. I competed growing up, was a member of my High School Pom squad, danced in College and then I was able to fulfill my biggest dream of Dancing professionally. I danced for the Arena Football league as well as the NBA! Being out on the NBA court performing in front of over 20,000 people is unforgettable and something I am so proud of. There is nothing like walking to your locker room right next to LeBron James.
