FAQ’s

The following information can be used as Alex’s biography in written material. More information about Alex can be seen on https://becauseisaidiwould.org/alexsheen. This is for written copy only. (For a verbal introduction, please see below for his Keynote Intro / Outro.)

What can I use for Alex’s speech description in a program or event website?

The following are two different descriptions for Alex’s keynote. Two options are provided to give the host organization options based on their preferred writing style, but other descriptions can be written.

  1. Alex Sheen believes that every individual has the strength to become a person of their word. In this session, Alex shares his insights and actionable ways to become better at fulfilling commitments. He inspires others to become more accountable to their promises through compelling and real-life examples from the because I said I would movement.
  2. We live in a society that often does not respect the importance of a promise. It is too easy to say “I’ll get to it” or “tomorrow.” In many ways we have become numb to disappointment and broken commitments. This expectation starts to fade into our character as individuals. Alex Sheen believes that every individual has the strength to become a person of their word. As the Founder of an international social movement, Alex shares his insights and actionable ways to become better at fulfilling commitments. He inspires others to become more accountable to their promises through compelling and real-life examples from the because I said I would Alex convincingly illustrates how integrity and keeping your promises are forever interwoven. He discusses how holding ourselves and each other accountable truly changes humanity for the better.

How should I introduce Alex and conclude his speech?

The statements below can be used to introduce Alex and conclude his appearance. Many organization leaders who introduce Alex often add a personal, non-commercial story about what a promise means to them. We prefer that any part of the introduction talking about because I said I would or Alex remain relatively short (20-30 seconds). Longer introductions can duplicate and dull some of the content in Alex’s speech.

What is your Speaking Engagement Messaging Policy?

We are a social movement and nonprofit dedicated to bettering humanity through promises made and kept. Alex Sheen, Founder of because I said I would, gives speeches that motivate and inspire audiences to honor commitments that make a positive impact on the world. Alex’s speeches focus on personal accountability, character, and leadership development by telling emotional and moving promise stories from his life and the lives of our supporters.

Our efforts are inspired by the lives of our supporters. Many of them have endured unimaginable tragedies, including the loss of loved ones and even their own terminal illness. As a nonprofit organization, we must be sensitive to not exploit these stories for commercial purposes. That is why 100% of our fees go to the nonprofit. Our hope is to never compromise the integrity of our charitable and humanitarian efforts as a nonprofit organization. We are eager to work with companies who understand that developing a better employee starts with developing a better human.

We certainly understand that for-profit corporations benefit greatly from a culture of accountability; however, as a nonprofit organization, our message and the Promise Card are not intended for commercial promises (e.g., sales quotas, on-time shipments to customers, etc). To ensure that we do not exploit the lives of our supporters, we focus on humanitarian promises to improve yourself, your family, your community or a humanitarian cause.

Because I said I would speeches do not directly speak to the importance of the commercial or for-profit promises given to customers, partners and employees.  Audience members will implicitly make connections to their lives as they see fit.

Does Alex have a media / social media policy?

If Alex’s speech is being recorded or if media members will be present, please notify the speaker. His speech cannot be recorded (audio or video) in part or in full without written permission from because I said I would. We very often grant these rights, but want to ensure that we first understand how the video will be used. We also want to ensure that any media appearances and social media posts are discussed beforehand. We want to ensure that the connections between our organizations are not discussed in a way that communicates an endorsement or sponsorship to either party, unless agreed to previously.

What are Alex’s A/V requirements?

Alex’s presentation is dependent on 2016 Microsoft PowerPoint file saved in 16:9 aspect ratio, with high resolution images, embedded videos (all in one file – no file references) and video sound which is played through a 3.5 mm audio jack from the computer. All videos and audio files are combined into one file. An internet connection is not required. The host organization must provide: a projector compatible with a HDMI input and a projector screen (or equivalent display where the image is clear, bright, and easy to read from every seat), HDMI cord, a back-up computer with Microsoft PowerPoint, a microphone (lavalier preferred), a wireless presentation remote, and 3.5 mm audio cable that connects to speakers that can play adequately for the room.

Does Alex have any dietary restrictions?

Alex is a vegetarian. Cheese and dairy are fine.

What does Alex prefer for hotel accommodations?

A clean standard room is all he needs. He prefers Hilton Garden Inn if the event venue is not at a hotel. Because Alex works for a charity, he cannot accept extravagant executive suites.

I’m booking a flight for Alex. How does he prefer to fly?

Because of Alex’s intense speaking and travel schedule, because I said I would almost always will book Alex’s flights for your event. While Alex lives in Northeast Ohio, he could be coming from anywhere in the United States (or possibly internationally) to arrive at your event venue.

In the rare case you need to book flights, Alex flies coach and prefers a window seat.
