On October 23rd, Matthew Cordle will be sentenced to prison for the death of 61 year-old Vincent Canzani. In the state of Ohio, aggravated vehicular homicide carries a mandatory sentence of between 2 and 8 years. Judge David Fais will hand down a sentence that he believes is suitable according to criteria defined by state law.
But no matter what sentence Matthew receives, it will not be fair. Mr. Canzani’s life was stolen. There can never be a sense of fairness when a life is lost for such a senseless reason. All Matt can do now is take responsibility for what he has done and encourage others not to make the same tragic mistake.
In the United States, someone is killed every 53 minutes in a drunk driving crash. If you have been making the same excuses Matt made, know that your victim can still saved. Promise someone you love that you will never drink and drive. #SaveYourVictim
