 A Night of Promise: April 28th, 2016

Because I said I would hosted it’s first event in September 2014. That day undoubtedly shaped the movement forever. It is time that we meet again.
With great enthusiasm, I invite you to the inaugural because I said I would Gala at the House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio on April 28th, 2016. Enjoy a night of inspiration, entertainment and appreciation with a rare line up of nationally-recognized speakers.
  • Katie Spotz: 70 days alone at sea, she’s the youngest person to row across the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Colonel Parker Schenecker: 27 years in the U.S. Army, 20 tours in the Middle East.
  • Alex & Sam Kimura: The epic cross-country story of two sisters trying to save a life.
  • Alex Sheen: Three-time TED speaker and Founder of the because I said I would movement.
  • Entertainment from Sung Beats: Beat box artist and Night at the Apollo winner.
Tickets are very limited, but are currently still available at https://becauseisaidiwould.org/event. It’s safe to assume that this line-up of incredible featured guests will never happen again.

We apologize in advance if tickets sell out quickly and not everyone can make it. We deeply appreciate the overwhelming support we have received around the world. Thank you for caring about the importance of a promise! If you you’re interested in how your employer can get involved, please email Laurie@becauseisaidiwould.org.

Update on Chapters

Local chapters start in May

Because I said I would is starting local chapters to make an impact in communities around the world.
Our initial two chapters are in Cleveland, Ohio and Tampa, Florida and we are hosting their first chapter meetings in May. We have also selected the next two locations (Denver, Colorado and Columbus, Ohio). We are still determining the timeline for those first meetings. We are considering Phoenix, Arizona as our fifth location and are in the preliminary stages of that process.

World-renowned Ultra-Athlete Joins Movement

Katie Spotz has joined the because I said I would staff.
After 70 days alone at sea, Katie became the youngest person to row the Atlantic Ocean solo at age 22. No stranger to overcoming challenges, Katie ran across the Mojave Desert unsupported, cycled across America twice and is also the first person to swim the 325-mile Allegheny River.

Katie was named a 2010 Glamour Woman of the Year. Throughout her adventures, Katie wasn’t just seeking to make history. She was also raising money for safe drinking water projects around the world, totaling over $275,000 in funding. We are excited to have Katie on our Operations and Development team.

Is Character Education critical to society?

Yes. It is.

It is very important to learn math, science and history… but if we don’t teach our children about having good character, what’s the point? The world certainly needs smart people… but we also need GOOD people.

We need to raise a generation of honest citizens who care about one another and do what is right for their community and for the world.

Because I said I would is taking action to support this thought. We are developing character education curriculum and interdisciplinary learning materials that can be used in the classroom. These “teacher kits” will help educators teach the importance of keeping promises, helping others and self improvement.
Last month we formed a Teacher Advisory Council that is currently developing this material. Teachers often have to use their personal income to buy supplies for the classroom, so we plan on releasing this material in April at no cost to teachers. If you would like to donate to help our efforts, please visit https://becauseisaidiwould.org/donate.
