Promise Story

“I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for what I’m not.”

Jesse was raised to believe that being gay was wrong. He even participated in a conversion therapy program, a practice that has no support from any mainstream mental health professional organization, including the American Psychological Association. After a long internal struggle, Jesse came to a conclusion: “I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for what I’m not.” Jesse made a promise to live an authentic life where he no longer has to apologize for who he is. Because of his decision, Jesse was disowned by his father and he found himself homeless, with all of his belongings in his car. Jesse was a participant in our Resiliency Training, a personal development program that focuses on practical habits and tactics to face life’s adversities. He shared his story in this video during one of our sessions. If you’ve fallen on challenging times and are looking for this type of support, consider joining our Resiliency Training on October 4th, 2021 with others working to keep important promises.

School Assemblies!

After such a tough year, four middle schools in Cleveland, Ohio wanted to provide programming to help the kids with coping skills, but they didn’t have the budget. Donors like you made it possible for us to deliver character development assemblies at all four of the schools regardless. We played it safe by requiring masks and having smaller, socially distanced audiences. If you know a school that could benefit from an assembly with Alex Sheen, please contact us here.
