Clean and Disinfect

The Promise

I will clean and disinfect my house/ surroundings by following the CDC guidelines.

Impact of the Promise

Current evidence suggests that COVID-19 may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials. Cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection is a best-practice measure for prevention of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory illnesses in households and community settings. As individuals we can all do our part in ensuring the safety of our households and others by frequently cleaning and disinfecting following the CDC guidelines. If we all do our part, we can help flatten the curve!

Action Items

Do

  • Review the CDC cleaning and disinfecting recommendations here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/cleaning-disinfection.html
  • Clean and disinfect high touch surfaces daily (like doorknobs, keyboards, and phones).
  • Disinfect the remainder of your house weekly using the same guidelines.
  • Use soap and appropriate disinfectants!
  • Wear disposable gloves when cleaning. Discard when done.

Don’t

  • Don’t touch your face.
  • Don’t use expired products. They won’t work.
  • Don’t mix bleach with ammonia. It is dangerous.
  • Don’t shake dirty laundry. This will minimize the possibility of the virus going into the air.
  • Don’t use disinfectant on visibly dirty surfaces. Wash them with soap and water first.
  • Don’t use a disinfectant with less than 70% alcohol.
  • Don’t use products without proper ventilation.

Element of Honor

Accountability

I must be willing to accept personal responsibility for what I have done and what I have failed to do – both in what is good and what is not. Accountability helps me understand that my decisions have consequences. I help hold others accountable, but before I become too upset with the broken promises of others, I remember that I too have weakness.
